Subhashish is a documentary filmmaker and an interdisciplinary researcher whose work cuts across participatory digital culture and rights. With a career spanning over a decade in the social development sector, he has been as an entrepreneur and community manager and has catalyzed the growth of countless grassroots communities that use Openness in its core. His role has been significant in the development of many Indian-language Wikipedias, the Mozilla community across Asia, large-scale collaborations leading to copyright migration to Creative Commons licenses, and and the state of open internet landscape across Asia-Pacific. He has worked with the Wikimedia Foundation, Mozilla, Internet Society, Centre for Internet and Society. His keen interest in digital activism for indigenous and endangered languages has brought him a grant from National Geographic and the 2017 ONA MJ Bear Fellowship that helped shape OpenSpeaks, a project that continues to create open resources for language documentation. Subhashish was formerly a Digital Identity Fellow at Yoti where he researched the Indian biometric ID Aadhaar and produced a documentary film "MarginalizedAadhaar".
